HR Intern 

 Ho-Chunk Corporate Services, a division of Ho-Chunk, Inc. 
Location: Winnebago 
Job Type: Full-time | Monday to Friday, standard business hours 

 

Compensation & Benefits 

Compensation will vary depending on experience, education level or degrees obtained, and the cost of living for the assigned work location. 

Intern employees are categorized as seasonal full-time employees and will accrue one hour of paid sick time for every 30 hours worked. Accrual begins after 80 hours of consecutive employment in Nebraska.

Position Summary 

The HR Intern will support the Human Resources team with a focus on talent acquisition, onboarding, and compliance. This internship provides hands-on experience in recruiting, interviewing, documentation, and HR project work. The ideal candidate will bring enthusiasm, discretion, and a willingness to contribute across multiple HR functions. The intern will be responsible for completing all tasks outlined in their summer project plans assigned by managers Interns must participate in all mandatory internship programming, evaluation periods and professional development sessions.   Attending sessions remotely will be determined and approved by program manager. 

 

 

Key Responsibilities 

Talent Acquisition 

  • Source candidates through job boards, social media, and other recruitment platforms 
  • Conduct initial screenings and assessments of potential candidates 
  • Coordinate interviews and maintain candidate communications 

New Hire Compliance 

  • Prepare and manage new hire paperwork and documentation 
  • Ensure onboarding compliance with internal policies and regulatory standards 

Project Support 

  • Contribute to talent acquisition and onboarding process improvement projects 
  • Assist with the implementation of recruitment events and HR initiatives 

Administrative Support 

  • Provide general administrative assistance to the HR team 
  • Maintain accurate HR records and documentation in databases 

 

Qualifications & Experience 

Required: 

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field 
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management abilities 
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to a dynamic environment 
  • High level of discretion and ability to handle confidential information appropriately 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite 

Preferred: 

  • Familiarity with HR software and applicant tracking systems 
  • Basic understanding of employment laws and HR compliance best practices 

 

Work Environment & Physical Requirements 

  • Operates in a professional office setting with regular use of computers and office equipment 
  • Must be able to remain stationary for approximately 50% of the day 
  • Occasionally moves throughout the office to access files and equipment 
  • Uses a computer and office productivity tools for approximately 80% of the workday 
  • Must be able to work indoors 90% of the time 

 

Schedule & Travel 

This internship is offered with flexible hours to accommodate academic commitments. Regular business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. 

Travel is anticipated for all new interns and includes a site tour of Dynamic Homes in Detroit Lakes, MN, which typically requires an overnight trip Lodging, transportation, and other travel expenses are provided. This does not apply to ANG Interns 

Interns whose work location is in Sioux City, South Sioux City, Bellevue, Omaha, or Lincoln may be expected to travel to Winnebago, NE, for various professional development sessions with senior leaders within the company and community. Interns may be responsible for commuting to and from the assigned worksite for all required internship programming activities if no company vehicle is available. This does not apply to ANG or Dynamic Homes Interns.
