Location: Winnebago, NE 
Job Type: Full-time | Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. 

 

Compensation & Benefits 

Compensation will vary depending on experience, education level or degrees obtained, and the cost of living for the assigned work location. 

Intern employees are categorized as seasonal full-time employees and will accrue one hour of paid sick time for every 30 hours worked. Accrual begins after 80 hours of consecutive employment in Nebraska.

Ho-Chunk Farms is the agricultural division of Ho-Chunk, Inc., supporting food sovereignty, environmental stewardship, and Tribal workforce development. With nearly 7,000 acres under cultivation, the farm produces corn, soybeans, alfalfa, organic crops, and cover crops. Ho-Chunk Farms participates in USDA conservation programs and promotes sustainable practices like water conservation and herbicide monitoring. The division plays a key role in advancing Tribal health, economic resilience, and land stewardship. 

 

Position Summary 

The Intern provides hands-on professional experience in a business setting, supporting the operations of Ho-Chunk Farms through project work, training opportunities, and exposure to Tribal enterprise functions. This paid, full-time summer internship is open to current college students and recent graduates interested in agricultural, business, or related fields. The position helps develop future leaders through meaningful work, mentorship, and engagement with cross-functional teams. The intern will be responsible for completing all tasks outlined in their summer project plans assigned by managers Interns must participate in all mandatory internship programming, evaluation periods and professional development sessions.   Attending sessions remotely will be determined and approved by program manager. 

 

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Participate in educational workshops, strategic planning sessions, and networking events 
  • Attend meetings with executives and department leaders to gain insight into business operations 
  • Complete assigned projects and tasks related to agriculture, business strategy, or operational support 
  • Provide feedback, ask relevant questions, and actively contribute during team discussions 
  • Reflect on experiences to identify skills learned and how they apply to future roles 
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and represent Ho-Chunk Farms at all times 
  • Perform other duties as assigned 

 

Qualifications & Experience 

Required: 

  • Must be currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a two- or four-year accredited college or university 
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and insurability under company policy 
  • Must be a U.S. citizen 
  • No prior felony convictions or pending felony charges 
  • Major in one of the following or related fields: 
  • Business, Management, Accounting, Finance 
  • Tribal Management, Law, Economics, Engineering 
  • Computer Science, Telecommunications, Sales/Marketing 
  • Behavioral Sciences or Agriculture-related programs 

 

Work Environment & Physical Requirements 

  • Operates in a professional office setting 
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, talk, hear, and use hands for tasks 
  • Uses computers and other standard office equipment regularly 
  • Must be able to remain stationary for prolonged periods 
  • No travel is required for this position 

 

Schedule & Travel 

This internship is offered with flexible hours to accommodate academic commitments. Regular business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. 

Travel is anticipated for all new interns and includes a site tour of Dynamic Homes in Detroit Lakes, MN, which typically requires an overnight trip Lodging, transportation, and other travel expenses are provided. This does not apply to ANG Interns 

Interns whose work location is in Sioux City, South Sioux City, Bellevue, Omaha, or Lincoln may be expected to travel to Winnebago, NE, for various professional development sessions with senior leaders within the company and community. Interns may be responsible for commuting to and from the assigned worksite for all required internship programming activities if no company vehicle is available. This does not apply to ANG or Dynamic Homes Interns.
