Summary

SUMMARY

The Geospatial Architecture Specialist is designated as key personnel under GIS Programming Support. This role primarily involves providing expertise in translating and developing programs, automation tools, code, and scripts for various platforms and purposes. The specialist is responsible for automating the management, maintenance, and standardization of large datasets, such as the Public Land Survey, Land Area Representation (LAR), and Land Status, preparing them for internal use and publication. Key duties also include designing and coding new programs/scripts to improve data management and map production, and devising tools for the automated creation, update, and management of Indian land tract, reservation boundary, ownership, lease, and right-of-way data, ensuring synchronization with the Trust Asset and Accounting Management System (TAAMS).

 

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Salary Range: $145,000 - $165,000

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Provide expertise in translating programs, automation tools, code, and scripts from Python to new support program platforms. 
  • Develop and write programs and scripts to automate the management, maintenance, and standardization of large datasets, including but not limited to the Public Land Survey, Land Area Representation (LAR), and Land Status data. 
  • Convert large datasets into approved data models for internal use as well as publication-ready data designs. 
  • Design and code new programs, scripts, and routines to automate operations, improving data management, maintenance workflows, and map production. 
  • Devise and deploy automated tools for the efficient creation, update, and management of Indian land tract, reservation boundary, ownership, lease, and right-of-way data synchronized with the Trust Asset and Accounting Management System (TAAMS). 
  • Ensure that legal land description data extracted from TAAMS is topologically aligned, where appropriate, with the official published version of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Public Land Survey System (PLSS) Cadastral National Spatial Data Infrastructure (CAD NSDI) Geographic Coordinate Database (GCDB) GIS data. 
  • Assist with scripting and automation for special projects within the Division and, when needed, across other divisions to support critical missions.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have knowledge of server or client scripting and/or processing solutions. Required languages and technologies include Python, PowerShell, JavaScript, and other web technologies to work efficiently with technical team members. 
  • Must be able to comprehend IT server and geodatabase architecture and design principles to develop resource information management and information delivery systems. 
  • Professional expertise in writing and translating programs, automation tools, code, and scripts. 
  • Knowledge of large datasets, including Public Land Survey, Land Area Representation (LAR), and Land Status data. 
  • Familiarity with the ESRI Suite of GIS software and related programming or model-building techniques is required.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as, geospatial development, engineering, or geospatial information management.
  • At least 7 years of experience in developing and integrating applications, geospatial preferred.
  • Design and implement geospatial data, workflow, and interface architecture.
  • Administration of policies and procedures, technical problems, priorities and methods.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but will serve as a technical leader and liaison with internal and government stakeholders.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in a professional office setting or remote telework environment. Must be able to operate standard office equipment, including computers, printers, and communication systems.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Frequently required to sit, talk, and use hands to operate equipment.
  • Occasionally required to lift objects up to 25 pounds.
  • Requires close vision, distance vision, and the ability to focus for extended periods.
