Salary 80,000k to 130,000k DOE

Summary

The Production Manager is an integral role in leading organizational change through formal and informal teaching venues, active 1-on-1 mentoring and troubleshooting with employees, continuous improvement project execution, and articulating a vision of a future state that influences others to change. The Production Manager will manage the activities of the Plant Foreman, Production workers and sub-contractors in the physical Plant.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a history of inner drive and strong desire to tackle the biggest challenges in an organization. This person needs to be a leader in the organization that can influence others, outside of their reporting structure.

  • Establishes operations standards for cost control, waste reduction, quality, safety and complete and on-time delivery.
  • Participates in the development of plans, strategies, and methods for achievement of Company goals.
  • Directs implementation and execution of manufacturing policies and practices in the areas of Lean Manufacturing techniques, materials usage, shipping and receiving, capacity planning, production scheduling, safety, customer satisfaction, and performance measures.
  • Recommends and implements strategic changes in manufacturing and operations strategy to maximize human and automated resources.
  • Coaches, develops, and manages Operations team capable of carrying out operations goals and strategies.
  • Lead and manage six sigma projects to accomplish measurable business improvement including reducing production time on products
  • Employ Six Sigma and Lean methodology and analytics into organization operation as part of organizational goal deployment
  • Lead cross functional teams that deliver sustained improvement to critical manufacturing and transactional processes to help management achieve strategic goals and impact financial results
  • Coach and facilitate process improvements to gain buy-in, resolve conflict and deliver results.
  • Introduce and train employees on LEAN, 5S, 8 Wastes, time studies and continuous flow
  • Facilitate Kaizen events and Learning teams for safety incidents and production issues
  • Facilitate meetings with Warranty, Quality Control, Operations Support Management to streamline Quality efforts
  • Lead daily and weekly Production meetings
  • Conduct cosmetic spot checks on each home module
  • Promote diverse ideas and input
  • Develops and maintains tools to calculate/validate capacities, takt time, cycle time, defects, and line balancing studies
  • Assembles supplier quotes to justify the introduction of new technologies to existing processes
  • Reviews and ensures accuracy of all pricing/costing of assemblies
  • Maintain and develop new assemblies for new options and offerings
  • Leads pre-production plan review and post-production meetings with assistance of Operations Support Manager
  • Leverage data analytics to make strategic tactical business decisions
  • Maintains good working knowledge of CBA to assure fair, equitable and consistent treatment of workers
  • Assists in negotiating labor contracts.
  • Resolves personnel grievances of union members
  • Oversees and supervises all square foot production in Plant
  • Recommends alternative production procedures
  • Produces plant production schedule
  • Coordinates and enforces all safety and OSHA rules and regulations in physical Plant
  • Implements and maintains production efficiencies programs
  • Attends weekly staffing meetings
  • Manages quarterly job posting process
  • Maintains and negotiates sub-contractor labor rates and contracts including sheetrock, taping and tile/stone
  • Enforces compliance with safety rules and regulations, directs other in safe and effective use of tools and takes prompt corrective action concerning any potential safety hazard.
  • Maintains a favorable working relationship with all employees to promote a cooperative and harmonious working environment.
  • Maintains good housekeeping practices which facilitate efficient operation as well as employee safety and morale.
  • Produce and maintain weekly production report.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position supervises all Plant Foreman, Production Cleaner and indirectly the Production Trainer. The role is required to carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The performance of this position requires occasional exposure to the manufacturing areas where the use of safety glasses is required, and the use of hearing protection may be required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with overtime as needed.

 

Travel

Travel is primarily not expected in this role, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.

 

Education Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering preferred.  Associate’s degree equivalent required; or three to five years in a manufacturing environment and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience can be academic exposure; Lean Manufacturing experience is preferred. Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal and management skills. Ability and desire to work in a team-oriented environment.

Achieved or ability to achieve LSS Black Belt certification within 2 years.

  • Must have strong knowledge of Six Sigma principles/methods, Lean product flow and process development.
