Job Title: Payroll Clerk

SUMMARY
Performs statistical and clerical duties necessary to prepare hourly, salary and commission payrolls. Communicates with management and employees on general payroll issues. Checks time sheets for accuracy prior to entry, reduces gross pay by all authorized and required deductions to net pay. Edits and processes employee time records, entering the information through a PC to an automated system for processing. Runs various payroll reports. Investigates questionable data and takes corrective action as necessary. Prepares and balances payroll summaries, W-2 forms, etc., as required. Prepares, sorts and distributes various payroll and miscellaneous checks (i.e. manual payroll, 401(k) payments, court, advances, promissory notes, 941's, stop payments). Familiarity with accounting and bookkeeping procedures. Provides "front desk" customer service to other departments and employees.

· Process and issue employee paychecks and statements of earnings and deductions.
· Review personnel time sheets utilizing an electronic timesheet software for compliance with company policy, government contract (as applicable) and state/federal regulatory requirements.
· Maintains accurate payroll records and employee files, including various payroll tracking logs.
· Manages database workflows to ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately and timely.
· Complete, verify, and process forms and documentation for administration of garnishments, authorized payroll deductions, unemployment claims, and employment verifications etc.
· Responds to employee inquiries and communicates clearly and directly with employees concerning payroll and administrative issues.
· Take part in training employees on organizations' timekeeping systems.
· Works closely with Human Resources, Benefits Administrators and Finance on payroll related issues and interconnected processes.
· Maintain strict confidentiality regarding sensitive employee information.
· Regularly perform duties independently and according to policy and procedure.
· Contributes to the team environment by participating in special projects and other job-related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
· Ensures accounting practices are in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
· High School plus advanced training, and 1 - 2 years of experience.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
None is required for this position.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
· Must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time.
· Occasionally moves about inside the office to access file cabinets, office maehine1y, etc.
· Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
· Expresses or exchanges ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
· Must be able to work indoor conditions 90% of the time.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am, to 5:00 pm. Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Occasional travel may occur; up to 10%. Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
