SUMMARY
- The Legal Department is seeking an Intern to work in our Bellevue, Nebraska office. The intern will, under direct supervision, perform various tasks and assignments for the Legal Department's professional staff. This position offers an opportunity to work closely with the General Counsel, in-house counsel, and the business’ stakeholders. The candidate will develop strong legal skills and knowledge, plus have a tangible impact on a multitude of business matters, including the new gaming industry in Nebraska.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Legal research, analysis, writing memoranda, drafting legal texts including reports, contracts and responses.
- Basic knowledge of the judicial system and business operations.
- A genuine interest in tribal law.
- Accepts designated, business-focus projects to research, propose ideas and solutions to implement.
- Provide suggestions to management for improving internal processes.
- Learns as well as becomes proficient in internal standard operating processes and software systems.
- Handle administrative and other tasks as assigned.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be pursuing a Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school, have completed all law school core classes, and it is preferred that the applicant completed the 2L year before the Summer of 2024;

- Intent to practice Tribal Law and Federal Indian Law;
- Familiarity with Tribal communities and cultures; and
- Native American Law coursework or CLE.

ROLE/LOCATION SPECIFIC ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Legal Research and Analysis: Conduct legal research on various topics, including case law, statutes, regulations, and legal precedents to support ongoing cases or projects.
- Drafting Legal Documents: Assist in drafting legal documents such as memos, briefs, contracts, pleadings, and discovery responses under the supervision of attorneys.
- Case Preparation: Support attorneys in preparing for court appearances, depositions, trials, and hearings by organizing evidence, preparing exhibits, and summarizing depositions or testimony.
- Document Management: Organize, review, and manage case files, legal documents, and other confidential materials, ensuring compliance with firm policies and legal guidelines.
- Court Filings: Assist with the preparation and filing of legal documents with courts or administrative agencies, ensuring proper compliance with filing procedures and deadlines.
- Administrative Support: Provide general administrative support to attorneys, including scheduling meetings, managing calendars, and coordinating logistics for client meetings or legal proceedings.
- Attending Meetings: Participate in client meetings, team discussions, and strategy sessions to gain exposure to legal practice and provide support where needed.
- Compliance Monitoring: Assist with monitoring and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, including internal audits, and risk assessments.
- Professional Development: Actively participate in training opportunities, meetings, and feedback sessions to enhance legal knowledge and skills.
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a part-time position. Typical office days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, part-time schedule is negotiable.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Minimal travel is expected for this position, with potential occasional travel associated with the intern program.
