Reports to:     Accounting Supervisor

 

SUMMARY

Responsible for the timely processing of journal entries, bank reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations, and other duties as required to support month end close process. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLILTIES:

  • Reconcile bank statements to the general ledger.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts as assigned in a timely and accurate manner to ensure financial statements are materially accurate.
  • Prepares journal entries to support the proper reporting of revenue and costs in the correct period in accordance with GAAP
  • Assist the Accounting Supervisor with the month end close procedures.
  • Analyzes records of transactions to determine accuracy and completeness of entries.
  • Research transactions identified in the month end close process that require explanation.
  • Prepares balance sheet, profit and loss statement, amortization and depreciation schedules, and other financial reports, using calculator or computer.
  • Serves as backup to Accounts Payable Clerk; receives, reviews, and processes vendor and subcontractor invoices and employee expense reports; prepares accounts payable edit journals for review; verifies and posts checks to appropriate vendors; assists with vendor Form 1099 reporting at year end.
  • Maintains client confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as requested by management.
  • Assist with the financial audit of the company year-end financial statements as directed by the Controller.

 

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to read and comprehend moderate to complex written and oral communication.
  • Ability to manage one’s own time.
  • Ability to develop, prioritize, organize, and accomplish work.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
  • Ability to work independently and as a group.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and practices
  • Good to excellent computer skills and proficient with MS Office
  • Detail oriented and task driven.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment.
  • Maintains a valid driver’s license and be insurable under company insurance provider/program.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Currently studying for a degree or degree in business, Accounting or Finance, with at least 2 years of classroom study completed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position has no supervisory responsibilities

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
  • Occasionally moves about inside the office to access filing cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer for 80% of the workday.
  • Expresses or exchanges ideas through the spoken word.
  • Must be able to work indoors 90% of the time.
