SUMMARY

 

The Licensed Practical Nurse II (LPN II) at Camp Fretterd Military Reservation (CFMR) plays a critical role in ensuring the health and medical readiness of Soldiers. This position involves performing comprehensive medical assessments and supporting various healthcare activities, including conducting anthropometric measurements, vital signs monitoring, phlebotomy, audiology, electrocardiograms, and point-of-care laboratory testing. The LPN II is instrumental in administering vaccinations, assisting with scheduling, maintaining accurate medical records, and ensuring compliance with military health protocols. This role requires adaptability, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic and structured military environment. Primarily stationed at CFMR, the LPN II also supports operations one day per week at the Flight Surgeon’s Office in Edgewood, Maryland. This position demands a high level of professionalism, confidentiality, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of patient care and operational readiness in alignment with Army Regulations.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  •  Perform medical readiness assessments, including height, weight, pulse, blood pressure, visual acuity, and phlebotomy.
  • Administer and document vaccinations as prescribed.
  • Conduct point-of-care testing, including cholesterol, glucose, and pregnancy tests.
  • Perform 12-lead ECGs on Soldiers.
  • Screen Soldiers for annual medical readiness and specialty exams.
  • Enter data into the Medical Operational Data System (MODS) and maintain medical records.
  • Assist in scheduling medical readiness appointments and managing clinic phone calls.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and other regulatory guidelines.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Proficiency in medical assessments and point-of-care testing.
  • Strong understanding of military medical readiness requirements.
  • Experience with data entry and electronic health records systems (e.g., MODS).
  • Good communication and organizational skills to manage clinic scheduling and patient interactions.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

 

  • Must have completed a formal education program in practical nursing.
  • At least three years of experience working with the military population.
  • Experience at VA facilities or Military Treatment Facilities, is accepted.
  • A valid Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license is required.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

 

This position does not typically involve supervisory responsibilities. However, the LPN II may be required to assist in training other staff members or Soldiers in specific medical readiness procedures.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

 

The LPN II will work primarily in medical clinic settings at CFMR and the Flight Surgeon's Office. The work environment is dynamic, requiring adaptation to varying workloads and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. The LPN II will need to adhere to strict military and government protocols, including security and safety regulations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 

Regularly required to stand, walk, and perform medical procedures such as drawing blood or conducting ECGs. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, such as medical supplies or equipment. The position may require extended periods of standing and moving throughout the clinic or field sites.

 

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

 

​​This is an onsite full-time hourly position. Workdays are generally Tuesday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Work may occasionally extend beyond these hours to meet mission requirements.

 

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

 

Regular commute to primary work location is not considered travel. Travel between CFMR in Reisterstown, Maryland, and the Flight Surgeon’s Office in Edgewood, Maryland, is required once a week. The distance between these locations is approximately 37 miles, which typically takes around 45-50 minutes to drive.

 

CLEARANCE/LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

  •  A valid LPN license is required from any State. Work is onsite.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC) for access to secure areas and systems.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
  • A background check and security clearance may be necessary, depending on access requirements.
