SUMMARY

 

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at the Warm Springs Health & Wellness Center is a vital member of the healthcare team, responsible for delivering comprehensive nursing care to patients. Working under the direction of registered nurses and physicians, the LPN provides a wide range of clinical services, including patient assessment, medication administration, wound care, and emergency response. The LPN plays a key role in patient monitoring, managing IV therapy, and supporting diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. By maintaining detailed patient records, ensuring the availability of medical supplies, and providing patient education, the LPN helps to maintain a high standard of care and safety within the clinic. This position is integral to the health and wellness center’s commitment to improving the health outcomes of the American Indian and Alaska Native populations, delivering compassionate and culturally sensitive care in a community-focused setting.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct intake procedures by obtaining general medical information, recording vital signs, and evaluating patients.
  • Provide pre-treatment, treatment, and post-treatment care, including monitoring vital signs and administering medications.
  • Assist with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, minor surgeries, and wound care management.
  • Administer prescribed medications via various routes (oral, topical, intradermal, subcutaneous, and intramuscular) and monitor patients for reactions.
  • Initiate IVs, regulate flow rates, and administer prescribed IV fluids and oxygen therapy.
  • Maintain patient records and ensure proper documentation of patient interactions and care.
  • Monitor and maintain the cleanliness and safety of treatment areas and ensure proper stocking of supplies.
  • Act as a liaison between patients and primary care providers, communicating changes in patient conditions and responses to treatments.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to other medical support staff and participate in ongoing professional development.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Skilled in performing clinical tasks such as taking vital signs, administering medications, and assisting with medical procedures.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective patient care and team collaboration.
  • Knowledge of infection control practices and emergency response procedures.
  • Ability to perform emergency care procedures like CPR and manage patient emergencies.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

 

  • Graduate of a state-approved Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) program.
  • Licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the United States.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification renewed every two years.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

 

This position does not typically involve supervisory responsibilities. However, the Licensed Practical Nurse will provide oversight and technical guidance to other medical support staff. The Licensed Practical Nurse will participate in training and orientation programs for new personnel

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 

Capable of performing physical activities such as standing, walking, and patient assistance. Ability to handle medical equipment and perform emergency care when necessary.

 

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

 

This is an onsite full-time hourly position. Workdays are generally Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., excluding federal holidays and specific closure days.

 

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

 

Regular commute to primary work location is not considered travel. Minimal travel expected, primarily within the clinic or for training.

 

CLEARANCE/LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

  • Must maintain active state licensure as an LPN.
  • Required to provide proof of immunization, complete HIPAA training, and adhere to patient privacy regulations.
